Unlike most varieties of hops, which may be acquired and propagated by the purchase of rhizomes, Amarillo hops are privately grown only by Virgil Gamache Farms; also the organization holds a trademark on the name "Amarillo" for hops.

  6. Bramling Cross Hop Pellets (UK)

    Bramling Cross is a dual use hops that has a strong foothold in European brews. Bramling Cross can be used at any stage of the beer brewing process including the bittering, finishing and dry hopping. Of its essential oils, caryophyllene and humulene are the ones that steps it up a notch. Both of these would indicate a more earthy, herbal aroma and flavor, even spicy. But the lower amount of these oils in total reduce the strength of these traits and allow for more fruity flavors and smells come through.

    Brewers Gold is a complex bittering hop that is noted to have a sharp or pungent bittering quality. It also imparts a fruity yet spicy aroma as well as having a black currant characteristic. It is on the low end of the bittering hop scale at 8 to 10% AAU typically. Brewers Gold can be used in a wide range of styles from English Ales to German Lagers and adds a decidely 'European' element to the beer. These make a good partner to noble varieties such as Tettnang and Hallertauer.

    US Cascade has a pleasant, flowery and spicy, citrus-like quality with a slight grapefruit characteristic. The hop is good for both flavor and aroma uses. It can also be used for bittering effectively, and can be used to make any ales, and indeed is characteristic of American Pale Ales; used in some Lagers.

    Described by some as a "Super Cascade", but not nearly as "citrusy". Some even use it for aroma as well as bittering. Bitterness is quite clean and can have floral notes depending on the boil time. (alpha acid: 9.5-11.5% / beta acid: 4.0-5.0%)

  15. Chinook Hop Pellets (NZ)

    Chinook is a dual purpose alpha variety, and is good for the beginning of the boil, or mid-additions in brewing. Chinook is popular in American style beers such as Pale Ale and India Pale ale, but extends itself well to Seasonal Ales, and darker beers including Porter, Stout, and Barley Wines. It has a heavy aroma, and somewhat spicy bouquet. Some piney and herbal notes will be evident in a fresh batch.
